Orthodox Morning Prayers: The Standard Four

*This is the second in a series of posts of Eastern Orthodox morning prayers. I say the prayers in the order that they will be posted, but feel free to rearrange and single out the prayers as you see fit! All Glory and Honor to the Holy Trinity!

Prayer to the Holy Spirit

O Heavenly King, O Comforter, the Spirit of truth, who is everywhere and fills all things, the treasure of blessings and giver of life, come and abide in us. Cleanse uf all impurity and of your goodness save our souls.

Trisagion

Holy God, Holy and Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us (x3)
-Glory be to the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Prayer to the Holy Trinity

Most Holy Trinity, have mercy upon us.
O Lord, cleanse us from our sins.
O Master, pardon our iniquities.
O Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities for your Name’s sake
-Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.
-Glory be to the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed by thy Name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory, of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

These following four prayers are the pretty standard opening prayers for many different occasions, and is especially used during the Royal Hours.  They are always at the beginning though. One of my favorite prayers is the Trisagion, the Thrice-Holy Hymn. It is beautiful when it’s chanted and really shows honor to God as the Pantocrator, the Rule of the Universe.
